My focus group: 4x females (16, 18, 21, 25) 3x males (17, 20, 23)
All group members identify as readers of lifestyle magazines. They would consider themselves aspirational.
Do you find there is a gap in the market for lifestyle magazines?
5/7 focus group members stated they thought there weren’t enough lifestyle magazines for niche audiences who’s lifestyle aspirations focus around things like travel and academia.
How well do you feel travel magazines cater to your age group?
The older travel magazine readers felt catered to, but the people aged 17-20 said there was very little content in existing travel magazines which catered to things they were able to do economically and realistically.
The focus group said that to make it more appealing to the age demographic, more younger people should be shown on covers of magazines to make it more relatable to their age groups, and there should be tips in travel magazines especially for students and young people working minimum wage jobs.
Conclusion:
For my magazine have decided to focus on travel magazine targeting at a younger audience than most conventional ones. To appeal to my audience, I will include younger models and success stories from readers and young travellers. I will present diverse social groups- people from different ethnicities and backgrounds – to show inclusivity of my audience.
