STATEMENT OF INTENT
Brief 3: Magazine and online
How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? (approx. 400 words)
Statement of intent - Magazine
My brief is to produce the front covers and the contents page(s) of the first two editions of a new lifestyle magazine that is being launched by Hearst and two pages for the working website for the magazine. Paradise magazine will target an audience of young people interested in travel from the ages of 16 to 25, as there is a gap in the market for this kind of niche lifestyle magazine. Most lifestyle magazines targeting young adult demographic use representations of 16–25-year-olds on the cover and links to social media. Magazines targeting people interested in travel have cover lines that discuss trendy places to visit, scenic photography and aesthetically pleasing imagery and pastel, natural/earthy colour schemes. To engage the target demographic, I will use models ages 16-25 and representations of different socio-cultural communities to present inclusivity. Ideologies portrayed support a niche group of youth culture, including ideology promoting inclusivity and multi-culturalism. I will use the genre convention of a pastel blue/green colour scheme across my magazine covers as its more likely to appeal to a younger audience. Mise en scene across both my covers and contents pages will be similar to establish a clear sense of branding and allow the new readers to understand Paradise magazine. Both my covers and contents pages will include different articles, photos and social groups, creating differences in mise en scene.
Statement of intent - Website
Similar and recognisable house style will be sustained through consistent ideologies and promoted articles onto the magazine website, except for the Masthead which will be different as is common with many travel magazine websites.
The articles will include topics that attract my target demographic including gap years, success stories of readers and articles written by young people themselves, all of which are subjects I found in my research from articles on lifestyle magazines. The audio-visual element of this website will be in the form of an informal travel vlog from a young influencer (From my research I have found the magazines include an audio-visual element that is often a spoken vlog or artistic video of a location) Paradise’s social media accounts will be advertised consistently throughout the website to attract and satisfy the expectations of the younger audience who are the main modern day media consumers with the 16-25 years olds being the biggest social media consumers.

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)
To encourage my audience to go to my website after viewing the magazine cover, I will use sublines on front covers telling readers to go to the website for ‘special features’ and articles shown on contents pages will have calls to action to visit website for more info. To make the products digitally convergent, my Issue 2 front cover will include a scannable QR code that will link directly to the website. From my research of similar magazines, advertisements of the subscriptions to the magazines are on every page of the website so I will include this section at the bottom of both home and hyperlinked page. Both the editions will be advertised for sale, as well as a subscription offer at the bottom of the home page and linked page.
